Can Lluquí

Mediterranean Environmental Centre

With Siddartha Rodrigo

Ibiza, 2023. In progress

On the site of an old mini-golf restaurant, designed by the GATCPAC architect Josep González in the 1960s and subsequently neglected by later owners, a change of use is proposed to transform the estate into a centre for environmental research and education. This will become a reference point for scientists conducting sampling on the island and a place to share natural knowledge with the public, thanks to its location surrounded by fields and forests, near the centre of Portinatx and a 10-minute walk from Cala Xuclà. The existing buildings will be adapted to restore the original character of the modern movement, a rationalist style informed by the traditional construction techniques of the island. The gardens will be cleared of invasive and exotic plants and converted into havens for native wildlife, offering educational trails that explain the different ecological systems of the area, from the steppe to dense forests of juniper and stone pine.
