Stroll along the Rost
2nd Prize in the competition for the urbanization of the Rost neighborhood

In a historic and semi-pedestrian neighbourhood of the municipality of Alella, situated on a hillside, a material continuity with the urban image and materiality of the centre is proposed, enhancing and beautifying the domestic and traditional character of the area. One of the competition's requirements was a tight construction budget, which is addressed by differentiating the pavement according to the type of use: in streets with traffic, strips of granite cobblestones are laid following the path of the installations to facilitate their renewal while dignifying the access to the homes. The interior is filled with exposed aggregate concrete for its low cost and durability, while in strictly pedestrian streets, bricks laid on edge are used, reflecting the character of the existing stairs. With these elements, along with the inclusion of native vegetation and permeable spaces, a new landscape identity is created that enhances the heritage value and improves environmental conditions, the water cycle, biodiversity, and helps mitigate the effects of climate change.

En un barrio histórico y semi-peatonal del municipio de Alella situado en una ladera se propone una continuidad material con la imagen y materialidad urbana del centro, potenciando y embelleciendo el carácter doméstico y tradicional del barrio. Una de las premisas del concurso era un coste de ejecución ajustado, al cuál se responde con una diferenciación en el pavimento según el tipo de uso: en las calles con tráfico se colocan unas franjas de adoquín granítico siguiendo el trazado de las instalaciones para facilitar su renovación a la vez que dignifican los accesos de las viviendas, el interior se rellena con hormigón desactivado por su bajo coste y durabilidad, en las calles estrictamente peatonales se coloca ladrillo a sardinel, siguiendo el carácter de las escaleras existentes. Con estos elementos y la inclusión de vegetación autóctona y espacios drenantes se genera una nueva identidad paisajística que pose en valor el patrimonio y mejora las condiciones ambientales, el ciclo del agua, la biodiversidad y ayuda a mitigar los efectos del cambio climático.
